Collective is the programme Design Hotels keeps for travel professionals, and through it a Dip Needle guest is received at these singular addresses as a preferred one: breakfast for two each morning, a room upgrade, early check-in and late check-out to lengthen the days. At an independent hotel no two rooms are quite alike, and the name of a category says little about the terrace, the light or the sound of the sea at night. That is where our attention goes before a proposal is written, so that the beachfront wine-tank suite at Dexamenes or the Nomad room at CERVO is chosen on purpose, and the architecture is left to make its own introduction.
Privileges apply to eligible bookings and vary by hotel and rate; upgrades and check-in and check-out times are subject to availability.

04Behind the programme
Design Hotels
Design Hotels chooses its members for a point of view, not a star count. Each is the work of a particular mind: an owner with a conviction, an architect allowed to follow it, a building that could stand nowhere else. On the western Peloponnese, Dexamenes sets its suites inside the concrete wine tanks of a former factory and lets K-Studio’s restraint hand the decorating to the Ionian light and Kourouta beach. Above Zermatt, CERVO gathers timber, soft light and an unusually sociable table beneath the Matterhorn, with the Ātman Mountain Spa waiting for the hours after the slopes.
Our selection continues with Cap Karoso on Sumba, Casa de La Flora at Khao Lak, Chetzeron at Crans-Montana, Timber Cove on the Sonoma coast, Ekies in Halkidiki and The Warehouse Hotel in Singapore. None resembles another, and none is meant to. A stay at any of them is an introduction to somebody’s idea of the place, and the pleasure lies in being let in on it.

Begin with the place
Tell us where the interest lies, when you would travel and what the stay is for. A coast, a mountain village or a city will do as a starting point; a particular building you have admired is even better.

A shortlist with reasons
We choose a small number of Collective hotels for setting and character, then read the rooms as closely as the buildings, since at an independent hotel the difference between two categories can be the whole stay.

The stay, in writing
The hotel, the room, the Collective rate and its privileges arrive in one written proposal with the terms beside them, so the decision is made with the whole stay in view rather than a price alone.

Arrive, and look around
The reservation is placed through Collective and your preferences travel ahead of you. Confirmation and the arrival plan follow before departure; from the door onwards the hotel’s own idea takes over, which is why you chose it.
