Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa

Grand Cayman has no shortage of beach. What Seafire brings to its share of Seven Mile is colour, a certain amount of noise and an unembarrassed appetite for company, which turns out to be the most useful quality a Caribbean address can have.

Gardens run from the pools down to the sand, and the building opens outward so the sea is never quite out of view. Families, groups and couples all end up here, which is either the risk or the charm depending on the week. Coccoloba puts lunch on the shoreline, and after dark the resort has several different answers to the same question. Only the spa turns the volume down, and it does so completely.

Gardens down to the sand

The resort sits directly on Seven Mile Beach, with pools and planting between the building and the shore, so the move from lobby to lounger happens by degrees, not through a gate. Its open plan keeps the Caribbean in the corner of the eye from most of the public rooms. Groups tend to scatter across the day here, some to the sand, some to the water, some to a long lunch, and the geography quietly makes that easy.

A balcony on every room

Rooms and suites all come with a private balcony, and many face the ocean through full-height glass. Inside, the palette is calm neutrals interrupted by tropical colour, which is what stops the place feeling like every other beach hotel photographed from the same angle. Families spread into the suites. The Beach House and the garden bungalows offer a different arrangement again, closer to the planting and further from the general circulation.

Where the day ends

Coccoloba is the beach lunch that runs long, close enough to the shoreline to be sandy by the end. Ave changes register for dinner, and Library by the Sea is where the evening finishes, in a room that rewards staying in it. The Spa at Seafire pulls the other way: an indoor pool, low light and none of the brightness of the day outside. A week here works because each day can end somewhere different.
