Day 1
Arrival, and the first rooftop
A private car meets the flight and brings you into the medina, where the door of the riad gives nothing away until it opens. The day asks for nothing beyond a rest, a first mint tea in the courtyard and dinner on a rooftop as the light goes and the call to prayer crosses the roofs.

Days 2–3
The thread through the souks
The guide takes one thread and follows it: from the dyers’ skeins to the coppersmiths, from the cedar joiners to the Ben Youssef Madrasa, where the zellige and carved plaster set the terms for everything since. Lunch is in the medina. The second day pairs a garden, Majorelle or Le Jardin Secret, with an appointment in a maker’s workshop or a private kitchen, and leaves the late afternoon quiet.

Day 4
The road into the Atlas
A little over an hour south, the plain gives way to foothills and the road begins to climb. Lunch is taken in a village on the way or on the terrace at the mountain base, and the first walk is a short one, to learn the valley’s shape and the pace of its paths. The evening settles into the mountain’s quiet.

Days 5–6
The day’s distance, set over breakfast
Each morning the mountain guide proposes the route for the conditions and the company: a walk between the Amazigh villages of the valley with lunch at a village house, or a longer climb towards the pass with the peaks around Toubkal in view. The other day is shorter, or given entirely to the terrace, a book and the sound of the river.

Day 7
The return, unhurried
A private car returns you to Marrakech and the airport in time for the flight, with the mountains in the rear window for most of the way. For early departures the final night moves to the city, where Park Hyatt Marrakech keeps the range on the horizon and the pool at hand.

Marrakech gives up its best to those who follow a thread rather than a map. With the right guide the souks resolve into workshops: the dyers with their skeins drying in the sun near the Mouassine fountain, the coppersmiths at their anvils, the joiners who still make the carved cedar ceilings of the riads. The zellige of the Ben Youssef Madrasa explains the geometry of everything else, and the gardens, the Majorelle and Le Jardin Secret, supply the shade. Three nights is enough for one idea to be pursued and one evening kept for a rooftop at the hour of the call to prayer. Then the road climbs south for little more than an hour into the High Atlas, where the villages hold to the valley sides and a mountain guide sets each day’s distance over breakfast. The air, the silence and the long lunch on the terrace complete the day.
To your measure
The medina days can be given entirely to design and craft, with an appointment in a maker’s workshop or a morning in a private kitchen learning the tagine, and the mountain days made as gentle or as ambitious as you like: village-to-village walks in the Imlil valley, a full day towards the high pass or a stay that is mostly the setting and the table.
