The doors it opens.
A Smith hotel booked through Dip Needle receives you as a preferred guest, with breakfast for two each morning, a hotel credit for dinner or the spa and VIP recognition from a house small enough to mean it. The Smith Extra comes as well: a gesture particular to each hotel, presented on arrival, which we leave undescribed because the surprise is part of it. Rooms at hotels like these are individuals, not categories. The one under the eaves and the one over the walled garden may share a name on the tariff and nothing else, so the proposal is written after the rooms have been read, and it says which one and why.
Privileges apply to eligible bookings and vary by hotel and rate; upgrades and check-in and check-out times are subject to availability.

Mr & Mrs Smith
Mr & Mrs Smith admits a hotel for one reason, that the Smith team has fallen for it; the stars above the door are beside the point. In Hampshire, Heckfield Place is a Georgian house of quiet contemporary confidence, with Home Farm, a market garden and orchards behind it and two kitchens, Marle and Hearth, cooking from the estate. Lime Wood, in the New Forest, pairs Angela Hartnett and Luke Holder’s Italian-accented cooking with Herb House, a spa spread over three levels and worth a whole day.
The Newt in Somerset, THE PIG-at Combe in Devon and The Royal Crescent in Bath carry the English thread; Villa La Coste in Provence, Les Roches Rouges on the Côte d’Azur and Fogo Island Inn on the edge of Newfoundland carry it out of the country. These are hotels for the traveller who books the hotel first and the destination second, and who wants to know, before anything else, what the bedroom is like with the curtains open.

We choose a handful of Smith hotels for the occasion and read each closely: which rooms have the view, where the quiet is, how far the spa is from the bed and what the house gives on arrival.

Reserved, and introduced
On your approval we make the reservation and introduce you to the house: the room you chose and why, the occasion, the hour you expect to arrive and anything the kitchen ought to know.

Arrive, and stay put
Confirmation and the arrival details reach you before you set off. After that the weekend belongs to the house: a fire lit somewhere, dinner that came from the garden and a bed you will describe to friends.
