Gran Meliá Iguazú

Most people see Iguazú in a day and leave. This hotel stands inside the park, which changes the visit entirely: the falls are not an excursion but part of the view from the pool, with a stretch of rainforest in between.

Argentina’s Iguazú National Park is both the setting and the subject. Rooms face either the jungle or the water, and RedLevel suites add terraces and more reason to stay put. The infinity pool looks straight out across the canopy, the spa takes the afternoon after the trails, and the evening ends facing the same green. Sleeping inside the park costs a little in logistics and repays it in hours.

Inside the park boundary

The national-park location is the whole proposition. Everything else about a visit to Iguazú, the trails and the walkways, is a short distance away instead of a drive, and the hotel can be returned to at midday and not only at the end. Park admission is required to reach the property, so arrival takes a little arranging. In return the rainforest begins where the terrace ends, and the falls stay in view rather than in the diary.

Jungle green or falling water

Two outlooks, two holidays. The jungle rooms are enclosed by green, with a balcony that behaves like a platform in the canopy; the waterfall rooms hand over the headline view and rarely have their curtains closed. Interiors stay pale and textural so that neither is competing with the window. RedLevel suites go further, with terraces wide enough to make a morning spent indoors the obvious decision.

The view comes to dinner

Merkado sets Mediterranean cooking against Argentine produce and keeps the landscape at the window, which is unusual for a restaurant this far inside a national park. Pool Bar Gala covers the informal middle of the day and Alter Rooftop Bar takes the last of the light from above the trees. Yasi Spa is the other pace entirely. A day here can move from a long walk to complete stillness without leaving the grounds.
